Data Analyst

Job Title:             Data Analyst
Reports to:         Head of Engineering Quality and Efficiency
Location:             UK – Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Glasgow

Do you have experience with processing and analysing data? Do you have excellent attention to detail and a continuous desire to learn and develop new skills?

We're looking for a Compliance and Reliability Analyst to join our Central Engineering Team to help improve performance and enhance the reliability of the First Bus fleet.

As a Compliance and Reliability Analyst you utilise your experience and analytical ability to compile performance scorecards and identify practical insights from the data available to help deliver improvement in efficiency and compliance. Through a methodical and organised approach, you will utilise data captured by our new asset management system to provide assessment of defect volumes, parts and labour consumption as to inform our future maintenance strategies and thereby positively influence the reliability of our fleet.

Occasional UK wide travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with both operating company and central colleagues to identify, validate, and implement new data led methods for supporting improved performance, efficiency, and profitability in a sustained manner
  • Undertake analysis, prepare reports, and generate Key Performance Indicator (KPI) information to provide visibility of engineering performance.
  • Promote a culture of evidence-based sharing of best practice
  • Support engineering, environmental and procurement efficiency improvement programmes
  • Support the Reliability Centred Maintenance Engineer(s) to increase understanding of system and component reliability and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Work with colleagues and suppliers to solve problems through a data led approach


Skills and Experience

  • Experienced with data analysis methods with ability to identify areas of risk / opportunity and able to translate and report into actionable information.
  • Experienced with multiple software packages for data extraction as well as being conversant with Microsoft Office / 365 and Excel in particular.
  • Highly organised with a proven track record of planning and executing tasks to achieve deadlines for a wide range of activities.
  • Ideally you will have experience of analysis within an engineering or maintenance environment but this is not essential
  • Understanding of financial accounting and/or statistical processes is desirable as would be an understanding of Microsoft Power BI
  • Training of the company's asset management system (Hexagon EAM) will be provided.
