Transport Planner

Transport Planner (Resource Scheduler)

Leicester, full time, permanent

Salary: Up to £32,000 DOE

We are looking for Forward Allocator to join our team in Leicester.

As a Forward Allocator you will effectively plan workforce resources to enable safe, punctual, reliable and cost effective delivery of services. Proactively plan drivers to rotas and duties, to minimise costs and impact of  predictable disruptions, within the operational excellence framework. A key focus and priority of the role is effective scheduling and planning, taking into account  planned and unplanned downtime of drivers' holidays, sickness and training. Engage front line colleagues though effective communication, active listening and recognition.

Main Duties

  • To allocate drivers duties within current working time legislation.
  • To ensure week ending payroll file is accurate and sent in accordance with payroll deadline.
  • To effectively plan for holidays and lieu day requests.
  • To be able to work shifts.
  • To communicate with Drivers, Controllers, Assistant Staff Manager & Staff Manager.
  • To deal with long term disruptions to rotas such as sickness etc.
  • To deal with rota change requests and actively manage rotas as new people come into the business.
  • To undertake any additional duties at the request of your line manager, which is deemed to be within your competency.
  • To adhere to all FirstGroup policies and procedures.
  • To undertake any training and development activities at the request of your line manager.
  • To comply with all Group Injury Prevention policies and support new initiatives.  

Skills, Experience and Qualifications Required 

  • Experience working in a supervisory role or similar.
  • Good knowledge of ICT systems such as Microsoft Office, DAS.
  • Professional knowledge of the Road Traffic Act and Working Time Regulations.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience of coaching people to succeed.
  • Good numerical skills.
  • Understanding of written and spoken English.
  • Time management.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Workforce planning
