Plant Technician

About the team:
There is a vacancy in the LTV Plant team, which is made up of multi skilled individuals that maintain the Depot at Reading, and the outstations. This is a varied role with responsibilities for maintaining a wide range of assets at these locations to the required standards. There is also a requirement to supervise contractors working on the GWR sites.
The Plant team supports a number of outstation locations, that operate 24 hours. There is an on-call roster and an expectation to live close to the depot to support this in a timely manner when required.
As the infrastructure modernises, we are looking for an individual who has building facility, plant fitting and electrical skills, but also has an understanding of networks, building management systems and micro controllers, with knowledge of lean and 5S methods.
About the job:
Delivery of routine preventative maintenance tasks on a variety of assets across the sites, also fault finding of the building and yard systems. Reading depot has a CNC operated wheel lathe, confidence around and a working knowledge of similar microcontroller-controlled types of equipment would be an advantage.
This would suit an individual who fault finds and problem solves in a proactive manner.
Your main responsibilities will be:
• Delivery of planned preventative maintenance
• Fault finding of the depot systems
• Ensuring contractors are working safely
• Use of asset management systems, with some ordering activities
• Work safely within railway environment
You'll need to be:
• dedicated to working in a safe and efficient way
• flexible, and comfortable working in a team
• confident using information technology
• a good communicator, responsive to the depot team's needs.
As a minimum you'll need to have:
• NVQ Level 3 (or higher) Engineering qualification
• Hold a BS 7671 – 18th Edition Electrical Certificate
• Demonstratable knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
• Evidence of proficiency in PLC programming such as Ladder / Graph monitoring.
Additional Advantageous Qualifications
C&G 2391 – 52 Electrical Periodic Inspection & Testing would be advantages.
Gas, Arc & Tig Welding Qualifications
Working knowledge of industrial pumps and hydraulics
Working knowledge of building facility & plant maintenance
About the location
Reading Train Care Depot is a large varied site with good transport links. The outstations are accessible by rail and road.
Working Pattern:
There is a day shift pattern, Monday to Friday with on call requirements.
Additional Information:
The successful candidate must live within a one-hour commute of the depot.
