BI Developer

The Role

 

We are looking for an experienced BI developer to design/develop and amend analytics solutions within the Rail SAP BW platform and includes developing interfaces, ETL, visualisations and support SAP ECC upgrade to S/4 HANA . The role will involve working with IT, SAP functional consultants and predominately Finance business stakeholders to understand requirements and working with users to ensure developments meet the business needs. The right candidate will be performance and delivery orientated, with an analytical mindset and problem solving attitude. They will have the ability to communicate to a wide range of business audience to ensure their requirements are understood and prioritised.

 

Key Responsibilities

Develop high quality solutions to meet business requirements:
  • Study and understand current BI data models with a focus on SAP ECC data sources
  • Evaluate impact of ECC upgrade and create/adapt BW extractors and data models
  • Work with stakeholders, SMEs, and users to understand the change and requirements
  • Work actively with the user community to encourage knowledge transfer and process improvement
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues, including performance and data quality problems
  • To own the integrity of the data within the platform and ensure this is maintained
  • Identify potential data sources to meet user requirements, work with IT colleagues to develop robust and secure interfaces
  • Work with product and project managers to maintain roadmaps
  • Provide support to business users via tickets received from the Help Desk – including service, incident and change requests. These are to be managed according to agreed service levels
  • Assist in the delivery of user training as required
  • To ensure a library of technical documentation is maintained and regularly updated

 

Additional Responsibilities
  • Understand TOC and Rail industry systems and data and to advise and deliver solutions that take advantage of any of these data sources
  • Collaborate with peers and wider teams to enhance best practice
  • Assist the TOCs in helping them understand opportunities in their use of the platform

 

 

Person Specification
Required
  • Strong experience in SAP BW toolset (3 years +, 2 Lifecycles +), SAP BW / BW on HANA Modelling and BEx Query Designer essential
  • Strong experience in working with SAP ECC and S/4 HANA extractors for modules - Finance, PCA, SD and MM.
  • Good understanding of functional areas like Finance, logistics, HR and Payroll
  • Experience of supporting production environment, resolving data loading issues, process chains
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively with the business and technical colleagues
  • BW 7.5, and experience with HANA modelling concepts
  • ABAP experience, using ABAP in Transformations / Rules and custom extractors
  • Experience of working with SAP Authorisations
  • Experience of testing and deployment processes
  • Experience of managing deployments to production environments
  • Working knowledge of SAP NetWeaver, and operating environment (ie Databases, Operating Systems, networking, applications)
  • Understands BI technology landscape both current and emerging solution options, and can envisage the business potential of emerging technologies and products
  • Willingness to confront and ask probing questions to understand colleagues needs
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Operate effectively in unfamiliar environments, remaining calm under pressure and agile in approach
  • Proactive and positive attitude
  • Transparent and open style
  • Excited by a challenge and enthusiastic about developing the wider team

Desirable
  • Experience of SAP Business Objects Reporting tools
  • Experience or knowledge of SAP BPC
  • Experience in AWS stack, including S3
  • Experience working with a range of different interfaces
  • Experience of working with Atlassian products as Jira & Confluence
  • Analytics and Visualisations packages, such as Power BI
  • Experience of both waterfall and agile delivery methodologies
