Rolling Stock Technical Trainer

Main Purpose

The holder of this post is responsible for the design and implementation and delivering of technical training programmes required for the development of Fleet Maintenance Staff and ensuring that they achieve and retain the required competencies. This will enable them to carry out the necessary tasks associated with the maintenance of Traction & Rolling Stock to high levels of quality and consistency that will in turn lead to improved safety and performance. The holder will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force. 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Design effective employee focused technical training programmes for fleet maintenance staff which meet the business requirements.
  • Work closely with both local Line Managers and the Fleet Training Manager to identify training requirements, develop effective solutions and evaluate the effectiveness of these solutions.
  • Develop and maintain an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and encourages the attitudes, values, visions and behaviours of the organisation.
  • Deliver on a regular basis core Fleet training courses including:
    • Induction Training
    • Health & Safety Training
    • Stock Maintenance
    • Technical Systems Training
    • Plant
    • Engineering Principals
  • Working with the Fleet Training Manager to ensure the efficient and effective organising, planning and time tabling of training courses.
  • Ensure co-ordination of all administration work associated with training courses including the development and maintenance of all training materials.
  • Ensure training and assessment records are completed correctly and feedback is passed to the relevant people and stored appropriately.
  • Ensure modifications and alterations to the training programmes are actioned as a result of changes in processes, specifications or working practices.
  • Prioritise objectives and schedule work to make the best use of time and resources to plan activities consistent with your objectives.
  • Inform trainees about their legal and organisational responsibilities for maintaining healthy, safe, and productive working conditions.
  • Ensure that working conditions under your control conform to organisational and legal requirements.
  • Take appropriate and consistent action when learners use discriminatory or inappropriate behaviour, remarks or language towards others.
  • The learning aims, objectives, outcomes and the opportunities for achieving them are clearly identified and made known to the learner.
  • Select the most appropriate delivery method to suit the learner and the identified aims and objectives for the programme. This could include:

Minimum Requirements 

  • Relevant experience and/or qualifications in a training field highly desirable.
  • Technical, academic, IT and experiential competence to at least the same level as is required of the learners on completion of their training.
  • For specific training there may be a requirement for possession of current licensing or certification

Working on average 37 hours per week.
